Positive Impact Rating 2023 Edition

We launched the 2023 Report at the UN PRME Global Forum

We released the Positive Impact Rating 2023 Report at a keynote session in plenary at the 2023 PRME Global Forum in New York in the presence of students, business school representatives, and other societal stakeholders from across the world. The launch was also live-streamed online.

At the launch, our leading schools were present to hear the social impact levels of 71 rated business schools from 25 countries announced by Prof Thomas Dyllick of the Positive Impact Rating Association and Lauriane Dietrichs, Vice President of oikos International and PIR Board Member. Two days before, in New York City, PIR students, faculty, deans and special guests from across the world came together at the PIR Global Summit 2023. The event built on the insights and best practices of the leading business schools and created impactful and future-looking outcomes to inspire the global business school landscape. 50+ participants contributed in an student-led session to the following outcome statement:

Integrate learning, research, and communications to accelerate change in business schools through transparency and collaboration with students.

PIR and the student leaders will translate into action this outcome statement by creating six PIR Working Groups to which all PIR schools are invited to join. Read the outcomes report of the PIR Global Summit 2023 for more details.

"Having worked with many business schools in emerging economies, I'm not surprised to see them do well in the PIR. Indeed, I'm excited by the transformations happening across participating schools and commend the PIR for recognizing and sharing their efforts."

Dan LeClair, CEO, Global Business School Network (GBSN) and Member of the PIR Advisory Board

In this fourth edition, students from 71 schools located in five continents and 25 countries participated in the survey. The number of student participants taking part amounts to 12,836 students worldwide. On average 181 students per school participated in the PIR.

The PIR 2023 Report features 69 schools of which seven schools made it to the top Level 5 (Pioneering schools). At Level 4 (Transforming schools), the report features 39 schools while 23 schools were rated at Level 3 (Progressing schools). In the spirit of reinforcing good practice, the rating does not feature schools that were rated below Level 3.

The schools were ranked according to five levels, with 5 being the top level and 1 the lowest:

Level 1 *  Beginning efforts at schools that are either getting started or are considering to get started or have difficulties getting off the ground despite a stated commitment or vision

Level 2 **  Emerging schools starting to translate a stated commitment to positive action in one or more domains

Level 3 ***  Progressing schools demonstrating evidence of results across some impact dimensions

Level 4 ****  Transforming schools with a positive impact culture, embedded in governance and systems, with visible results progress in many impact dimensions

Level 5 *****  Pioneering schools with unique, sustaining global leadership progress in all impact dimensions

After much analysis, we opted for a minimum number of 100 valid student responses per school. We deliberately refrain from disclosing the distinction between low-rated schools and those with an insufficient number of responses.
